Retouching for Portraits

One question I am asked at the majority of photo sessions is if I can “photoshop this or that…”

The short answer is yes, and what I tell everyone is that if it’s not permanently a part of you, like a blemish, redness, blotchiness, scratch, bruise, etc. it goes away.  Other things like scars can be lightened but I’m not changing how you look into something else entirely.

Same thing goes for changing body shapes.  Not my thing.  I want you to see how beautiful you are and I use lighting and posing and camera angles that are flattering to each person in front of my camera.  Did you know you can easily take off 10 pounds with lighting and posing?

Every once in a while there is the odd wrinkle in clothing or dust or pet hair and that gets taken care of too.

At the same time, I often have requests to make features more “real” instead of minimized, such as stretch marks, scars, etc.

At your consultation, we talk about how you want to be photographed, what you want featured, what you don’t want featured, what style you have in mind, and we plan out all of the details so we’re on the same page. And if you don’t know going into it, that’s ok!  That’s why we do the consultation; to walk you through planning your photoshoot!

Your final images should look polished, not like you are a completely different person.  My goal is to capture you in the best possible light, showing you just how beautiful you really are.

I would love to talk with you about planning your own photoshoot!
