Photography: Writing with Light

11/52 {Artificial Lighting}

Photography means everything to me.  I love learning everything I can, and have spent countless hours devoted to furthering my knowledge.  There are so many variables that go into making a really good portrait.  But none of it matters without light.

“The word ‘photography’ was created from the Greek roots φωτός (phōtos), genitive of φῶς (phōs), ‘light’ and γραφή (graphé)…‘drawing’,together meaning ‘drawing with light’.” “(Wikepedia)

Photography is magical to me.  Some time ago, I dove headfirst into studying lighting.  Artificial lighting in particular. I wanted to be able to shoot in any condition, not just when nature cooperated.  I didn’t want to be intimidated by any part of photography, and that means knowing how to light any situation.  I can happily say that I’ve come a long way. I’m far from mastering light or photography, but I can consistently bring my ideas to life, imagining the final look of a portrait and then creating it.

There’s nothing I’d rather be doing than writing with light.
